Summer 2013 Drawing Class

Here are a few scenes from the class Colorful Journey: Capturing the Moment that I taught as part of the Adventures in Learning (AIL) program at Colby-Sawyer College here in New London, NH.  About 20 students signed up for the class, and we had a great time investigating the art of on-location drawing.

Note the line of rocks.  One day it was too rainy to go outside to draw a stone wall, so we drew rocks indoors.

The students brought a lot of talent to the class, and they discovered a lot more of it as we worked through some simple exercises and they got used to carrying their sketchpads and tools with them and capturing the moments that reached out to them in their daily lives.  Comments like “I was amazed that I could do so much so quickly.” were common.

Here’s a link to the AIL Newsletter that briefly describes the class and contains a nice summary of my interests and background, and to the Course Catalog which has additional information about both the class and the entire AIL program.  I’d love to do this class again next summer, and I’m also starting to consider a class in interiors for the Winter Session.

At the end of the class, each of the students was awarded an Artistic License, very foresightedly issued by George Washington, first President of the United States.
